At my previous weather station I recorded data in one location for just under
nine years. Out of those nine years the maximum temperature in August was
higher than in July on four occasions. In the data for several
years the maximum values for July and August were within a few decimal points
of each other.
This year August so far has fallen a considerable way short of temperature
highs in July. 28.6°C in July vs 22.1°C for August, that’s 6.5°C cooler in
August. The average daily maximum temperatures bear that out also: 22.7°C
for July vs 21.0°C for August at this time.
Watch the action play out here!! There is still time for August to pull things
back, but forecasts for the next couple of weeks show maximum temperatures
staying in the low 20s, so at this point it seems unlikely.
